SEALING PROFILES FOR WOODEN WINDOWS AND DOORS

The time of simple wooden windows and house doors without or with only one sealing level has passed long ago. Today it is a matter of course that there are at least two, or often more, different kinds of seals used for those prefabricated building units. The subjects of noise protection and windows for passive houses are advancing particularly. But also the manufacturers of milling equipment are always offering new sets which in turn require new sealing geometries. This is creating plenty of possibilities and thereby sealing profiles as well.

The processing of increasingly more complex geometries is taking over more and more room. Whereas in the Seventies and Eighties sealing profiles have still been welded to a large extent, in the Nineties of last century the processing by beveling shear and notching of the wing folding seal in the corner region began. New profiles partly require a rethinking and the return to well-established techniques.

SEALING PROFILES FOR ROOM DOORS

There is an extensive range of profiles for room and house doors. For room doors two widths of notches are dominating, on the one hand 2,8 – 3,2 mm and on the other hand 4 mm wide notches. On the following pages you find the adjusted sealing profile for almost any intended use. Over the years in addition an extensive chart of colour range has been established, as today doors are often comparable to a piece of furniture.

The most popular sealing profiles are meanwhile equipped with a CORELESS CORD to avoid the length stretching during the fitting and by this further annoying and time-consuming refinishing.

SEALS MADE OF SILICONE RUBBER

Silicone rubber offers good resistance to extreme temperatures, being able to operate normally from −100 to 300 °C (−148 to 572 °F). Some properties such as elongation, creep, cyclic flexing, tear strength, compression set, dielectric strength (at high voltage), thermal conductivity, fire resistance and in some cases tensile strength can be—at extreme temperatures—far superior to organic rubbers in general, although a few of these properties are still lower than for some specialty materials. Silicone rubber is a material of choice in industry when retention of initial shape and mechanical strength are desired under heavy thermal stress or sub-zero temperatures
